Video instalacija je prvi rezultat triletne izmenjave surovih video posnetkov med Henrike von Dewitz in Simonom Svetlikom. Pred leti sta ugotovila, da njuni videoposnetki govorijo podoben jezik, in začela video dialog. Edino pravilo, ki sta si ga postavila, je bilo manipulirati s prejeto video datoteko in jo poslati nazaj po obdelavi/ dodelavi. Oba izvajalca sta izmenično obdelovala te videoposnetke, dokler nista ustvarila končnega rezultata. Sama avtorja, kot tudi gledalci bi težko zaznali, kdo je ustvarjal dele video materiala, ki sestavljajo končni rezultat njunega video dela.
Video posnetki Henrike von Dewitz in Svetlika temeljijo na manipulaciji izvirnih posnetkov skoraj priložnostnega, dokumentarnega značaja. Sprehodi v naravnih okoljih in mestih, dokumentacija efemernih instalacij, predmetov in živali, pokrajine in teksture se materializirajo, izginjajo, zbledijo in se prekrivajo. Ta metoda kompozicije vodi do video umetniških del z močnim občutkom za gibanje in napetost, več možnih pripovedi in specifično mešanico abstraktnih in dokumentarnih vidikov.
This video installation is the first outcome of a three-year exchange of video raw footage between Henrike von Dewitz and Simon Svetlik. Some years ago, they discovered that their videos speak a similar language and started a video dialogue. The only rule is to manipulate the video file that each artist receives from the other and send it back after transforming it into something new. Until the final result arises, those videos are handled by both artists a certain number of times. Both the creators themselves and the viewers will find it hard to detect who produced the video material composing the finished works.
The videos made by von Dewitz and Svetlik are based upon the manipulation of original footage of almost casual, documentary character. Promenades in natural environments and cities, documentation of ephemeral installations, objects and animals, landscapes and textures materialise, vanish, fade in and out and superimpose. This composition method leads to video art works with a strong sense of movement and suspense, multiple possible narratives and a specific mixture of abstract and documentary aspects.

V videoinstalaciji “Kot strela” se Henrike von Dewitz ukvarja z naravnimi pojavi, ki se pojavijo v nepričakovanih trenutkih in izginejo tako hitro, kot so nastali. Projekt je nadgradnja serije The 4 Elements, ki je bila izvedena v več formatih in državah. Večina videoposnetkov je bila posnetih spontano, postprodukcija pa se je v štirih letih trajanja projekta – od projiciranja čistega materiala, ustvarjanja jasnih geometrijskih oblik, kot so zrcalne slike ali kalejdoskopi, pa do ustvarjanja geometrijskih asimetrij z namenom ustvarjanja zmedenosti pri gledalcu – spreminjala.
Obiskovalce vabimo, da se izgubijo v raziskovanju umetnice in novih podobah, projiciranih na posebne površine, v vizualnih strukturah in zvoku. Instalacija na svoj način interpretira trenutne, z epidemijo povezane razmere, pa tudi širše politične okoliščine. Strela je pojav, ki se za ljudi zgodi nepričakovano in hitro mine. Umetnica inštalacijo vidi kot prispodobo trenutne nestabilne in nepredvidljive situacije.

KOT STRELA
In the video installation “Like a Lightning” Henrike von Dewitz deals with nature phenomena which appear in unexpected moments and disappear as fast as they came up. The project is an extension of the series The 4 Elements which was exposed in several formats and countries. Most of the videos were shot spontaneously and the post-production changed over the four years that the project was running from projecting pure material, creating clear geometric forms like mirrored images or kaleidoscopes, to the creation of geometric asymmetries which were built in order to confuse the spectator.
The visitor is invited to get lost in the artist’s observations and new visual creations in terms of projected images on special surfaces, structures and sound. The installation creates a connection to the current situation related to the epidemic as well as to the political situation. Lightning is a phenomena that occurs unexpectedly for us humans and is quickly gone. For the artist, this installation is a metaphor of the current unstable and unpredictable situation.

The YUruguayan Connection: The Lost World of Yugoslav Mail Art (Podcast Episode 31)
On February 19th, 2015, Clemente Padín, the elder statesman of Uruguayan art, replied to an email from his compatriot and young artist Francisco Tomsich with a fateful attachment: a list of email and postal addresses of six Yugoslav mail artists. These were some of the people with whom Padín had corresponded in the 1970s and 80s and 90s as part of a mail art network.
Padín’s list launched Tomsich into a story of surprising discoveries, unintended consequences, and, indeed, Yugoslavia as a cultural space; a story of art and the postal service and the threads that connect us; a story of friendships spanning decades and dictatorships and continents and generations…

Between 22.8 and 12.9.2020, Plac Izolanov gallery in Izola will become an open studio, a place of encounter and experimentation and a platform for showing some of the projects developed by the Izola-based cultural and artistic association Boja and its friends.
SATURDAY 22.8.2020, 11:00: Opening. The gallery will work as Francisco Tomsich’s open studio from 17:00 to 22:00 everyday from 22nd to 27th of August.
SUNDAY 23.8.2020, 20:00: Presentation of the project Poezija v prevodu. Bilingual readings, presentation of new series of publications, music and wine.
MONDAY 24.8.2020, 20:44 Henrike von Dewitz, The four elements. Video installation in the public space. Henrike von Dewitz is an anthropologist, video artist and documentary filmmaker born in Cologne, Germany, in 1981.

Med 22.8 in 12.9.2020 bo galerija Plac Izolanov v Izoli odprti atelje, kraj srečevanja in eksperimentiranja ter platforma za prikazovanje nekaterih projektov, ki jih je razvilo izolsko kulturno-umetniško društvo Boja in njegovi prijatelji.
SOBOTA 22.8.2020, 11:00: Otvoritev. Galerija bo delovala kot odprt studio Francisca Tomsicha od 17. do 22. ure vsak dan med 22. in 27. avgusta.
NEDELJA 23.8.2020, 20:00: Predstavitev projekta Poezija v prevodu. Dvojezična branja, predstavitev novih serij publikacij, glasbe in vina.
PONEDELJEK 24.8.2020, 20:44 Henrike von Dewitz, Štirje elementi. Video instalacija. Henrike von Dewitz je antropologinja, video umetnica in režiserka dokumentarnih filmov, rojena leta 1981 v Kölnu v Nemčiji.
Napovedani bomo tudi drugi dogodki, projekcije in predstavitve, ki jih bo med 5.9.2020 in 12.9.2020 gostil Plac Izolanov. Med drugim vključujejo predstavitev projekta Bivališča Branislave Sušnik.
